What Is Coaching?

Last updated: May 20, 2026

If you're considering working with a coach for the first time, it helps to know what you're signing up for. Coaching is a powerful process, but it works best when you come in with honest expectations.
Here's a real look at what it is and what it isn't.

Coaching is:

  • A partnership built around your goals, values, and vision for your life

  • A space to think out loud, gain clarity, and move past what's been keeping you stuck

  • Focused on the present and future - where you want to go and what might be in the way

  • A place where you're treated as the expert on your own life and your own brain

  • Action-oriented. Sessions often end with commitments you choose and design yourself

  • Confidential, judgment-free, and entirely in your corner

Coaching isn't:

  • Therapy or mental health treatment - we don't diagnose, treat, or process past trauma

  • Direction-giving - I won't tell you what to do or hand you someone else's playbook

  • A quick fix - real change takes time, honesty, and a willingness to keep showing up

  • A place to be fixed - you're not broken, and that framing has no home here

  • About my story - our sessions stay focused on your story, not mine

  • A course - I may share insights about how ADHD brains work, but the real work is applying that knowledge to your actual life

A Helpful Way to Think About It

Think of a coach like a thinking partner with really good questions. I'm not here to give you the answers - I'm here to help you find them. You already know more about your life, your brain, and what matters to you than I ever will.
My job is to help you access that wisdom and turn it into momentum.

Unlike therapy, which often explores the roots of why you think and feel the way you do, coaching starts with where you are now and asks: What do you want instead, and what would it take to get there?

A Note From Me

I have ADHD, too. I'm not coming to this work from the outside looking in - I know what it's like to have a brilliant, restless brain that doesn't always cooperate with the life you're trying to build. That lived experience shapes how I show up as a coach: with genuine understanding, zero shame, and a deep respect for how hard you've already been working.

That said, my experience isn't your experience. My role is to help you figure out what works for you. Our sessions stay centered on your life, your goals, and your way of being in the world.

Coaching could be a good fit if you:

  • Know something needs to change but can't quite figure out what or how

  • Are ready to be honest with yourself and take ownership of your next steps

  • Want a structured space to think, plan, and be held accountable

  • Are open to new perspectives, even ones that challenge your assumptions

Coaching may not be the right fit if you:

  • Are in active mental health crisis and need therapeutic support

  • Are looking for someone to give you the answers or do the work for you

  • Aren't sure you're ready to make changes right now - and that's okay

  • Need deep field expertise - you may be better served by a consultant or mentor

Not sure if coaching is right for you? That's a completely reasonable place to be.

The best way to find out is usually just to have a conversation - low pressure, no commitment, just a chance to ask questions and get a feel for how this works.
